Deep Tech Grand Prix 2024: Yamada Shokai Prize awarded to Cibionics (Gunma University) for development of rebar corrosion detection technology

2024.09.11 Venture Collaboration

(Head office: Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture; Representative: Toyohisa Yamada) will begin in FY2024,Asia's largest deep tech venture ecosystem," promoted by Liverness Inc.TECH PLANTER(*)" in the deep tech area (fundamental technologies for sensors, AI, robotics, etc.) as a partner.

The Deep Tech Grand Prix 2024 was held on Saturday, September 7, 2024, and Hiroyuki Suzuki, Senior Managing Director of Yamada Shokai Holding, participated as a judge and awarded the Yamada Shokai Prize to the finalist team, "Cibionics (Mr. Kuji Miwa, Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Gunma University).

Civionics is a team from Gunma University that is developing a rebar corrosion detection technology that captures the movement of rust in concrete. The team aims to commercialize a vibratory radar scanner that uses electromagnets to sinusoidally vibrate brittle, magnetic black rust in corrosion products and visualize the location and extent of rebar corrosion using Doppler radar imaging technology.

Yamada Shokai presented the award to Civionics because it sees great potential in Civionics as a partner in creating new businesses to contribute to society through infrastructure in preparation for the company's 120th anniversary in two years.

Corrosion detection technology for steel bars that captures the movement of rust in concrete
◯Outline: There is no existing technology that can nondestructively evaluate the amount of rebar corrosion in RC structures. This team will develop a vibratory radar scanner that can visualize the location and degree of corrosion of steel bars by using Doppler radar imaging technology, which uses electromagnets to sinusoidally vibrate brittle, magnetic black rust in corrosion products.

Yamada Shokai HD will continue to promote technological and business development with passionate researchers, venture companies, and diverse partner companies, aiming to become a corporate entity that solves various issues in safety, quality, people, and health, based on fundamental technologies such as sensors, AI, and robotics.

(About TECH PLANTER
It is an ecosystem that discovers researchers and R&D ventures with a passion to change the world and nurtures them into businesses that contribute to solving global issues in cooperation with major corporations, medium-sized companies, financial institutions, local factories, and others. Under the concept of "solving unsolved "deep issues" with "deep tech," a collection of science and technology," the competition will be held in seven areas (deep tech, eco, marine, agriculture, food, biotechnology, and lifetech), The goal is to solve unsolved issues by strategically searching for, investing in, and fostering the seeds of business development and R&D by combining the issues, technologies, and assets brought by the entry teams and partner companies in the seven areas (Deep Issue, Eco, Marine, Agri, Food, Biotech, and Lifetech).
