ShrimpTech JIRCAS is an International Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) venture specializing in land-based shrimp farming, including the development and demonstration of a closed-loop indoor aquaculture system (ISPS), juvenile shrimp production technology, feed research, and design support for aquaculture environments. Aiming to eliminate the environmental pollution, disease risks, and location constraints of conventional marine aquaculture and to achieve sustainable and stable domestic shrimp production, we are promoting the social implementation of next-generation aquaculture by bridging the research and industrial worlds.
Yamada Shokai HD is engaged in R&D and business development in the field of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries in collaboration with domestic and foreign deep-tech ventures, researchers, and others, with a mission to enhance the resilience of towns, countries, and the earth and enrich people's lives. As part of this effort, from June 2025, ARK ZERO, a land-based aquaculture tank platform developed by ARK Corporation, has been installed at the Nisshin Office of Yamada Shokai's subsidiary Yamada Shokai Corporation, where breeding trials are being conducted for the stable production of banamei shrimps.
In order to produce shrimp stably and sustainably in closed-type land aquaculture, comprehensive research and development that integrates biology, engineering, and environmental science, including understanding of shrimp physiology and ecology, feed and nutritional design, water quality and microbial environmental control, and disease risk, is required. The stable production of shrimp at a commercial level through closed land aquaculture is still at a limited stage worldwide, and various issues remain to be examined. Therefore, in this joint research project, based on the research capabilities, knowledge and know-how of ShrimpTech JIRCAS, we will examine rearing conditions for banana shrimp, production management methods, and verification of growth rate and yield improvement, with the aim of standardizing operations for the stable production of land-farmed shrimp.
Yamada Shokai HD will continue to contribute to the improvement of human life and the resilience of the earth through technological exploration and business collaboration in the fields of agriculture, forestry, and fisheries.
◼︎About ShrimpTech JIRCAS Corporation
The CEO is one of the main inventors of the "Indoor Shrimp Production System: ISPS" and has extensive development and research experience, having contributed to the establishment of the first large-scale shrimp plant in Japan. He also has world-class knowledge in shrimp physiology and biochemistry research. His main services include consulting on land-based shrimp farming (verification of site conditions, development of water environment, design, construction, and operation of facilities, etc.), contract research (test design, implementation, and compilation of results for the development of feed, supplements, and other products), and production and sales of young shrimp using closed-loop shrimp farming technology. The company will also produce and sell juvenile shrimp using closed-loop shrimp farming technology.
